Resetting Your Tire Pressure Light

After you’ve correctly inflated the tires on your Jeep, the tire pressure light should go off all by itself. If it stays on, there are a few things to try to make your TPMS light go off:

  • Drive at or above 50 mph around Nickerson or Buhler to reset the TPMS sensor for 10 minutes. This may trigger your sensor to reset the next time you turn on your vehicle.
  • With your engine off, turn the key to the “On” position, but don’t start the vehicle. Hold the TPMS reset button until the tire pressure light blinks three times, then release it. Start your car and wait 20 minutes for the TPMS sensor to refresh. The TPMS reset button is usually located beneath the steering wheel. If you can’t locate it, check your owner’s manual.
  • Inflate all of your tires to 3 PSI over their recommended amount, then deflate them completely. Be sure to do the same thing to the spare tire, as it could also have a sensor. Once your tires are all deflated, reinflate according to the recommended tire pressure for your tires.
  • With the vehicle turned off, disconnect the positive battery cable using a wrench. Turn your car to the on position and honk the horn for about three seconds. This will discharge any remaining power still stored in the vehicle. Then reconnect your battery.

What Does a Flashing Tire Pressure Light Mean?

TPMS sensors often use battery power, and a flashing tire pressure light might be a sign that the battery needs to be replaced. It could also be an indication of a problem with one of the sensors. Either way, you should schedule service at Allen Samuels Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram near Newton. Our helpful service team will diagnose the problem and get you back on the Hutchinson roads quickly.
